After being hit by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, MMC management was determined to improve the facility’s power resiliency. The hospital wanted to pursue cogeneration (CHP), but its electrical system needed an upgrade first. Eleven transformers had to be replaced, and a central power plant design needed to be developed as the electrical infrastructure was spread throughout the campus. It took a few years to finalize the plan and obtain funding for the $23 million
