Renew or Replace
Phase IV of Asset Lifecycle Management in a boiler plant is Renew or Replace. This phase incorporates the consideration and assessment of the remaining time period that the equipment will perform and provide meaningful use to the facility. The primary focus of activities during this phase is to determine whether the equipment’s life may be extended or if ultimately replacement is necessary. Often, the equipment as a whole or specific items may be rebuilt, refurbished, upgraded and renewed following thoughtful review of the condition and performance. Engineers often can assist in review. Engineering studies and fitness of service assessments can be helpful to measure current performance against the original performance as well as technological advancements that have occurred during the lifetime of the equipment. This phase originates with “Nearing End of Useful Life” and continues on to “Decision to Proceed.”
